Chuck Leavens
Director of Engineering and IT Management
Chuck Leavens came to DUQ in 1989. He has worked in broadcast engineering for 39 years. Chuck is celebrating his 20th year with WDUQ. As Director of Engineering and Information Technology, he is responsible for the entire technical plant - from studio to transmitter.
Chuck is the 2008 recipient of the Engineering Achievement Award from the Association of Public Radio Engineers (APRE)
Chuck is also known as a recording engineer documenting much of Pittsburgh's incredible jazz heritage. Chuck also manages the computer systems and servers, the web systems and the internet audio services. He launched DUQ's website in 1995.
Chuck is well known as a voice over artist as well voicing hundreds of commercials, local and national, over the years. Prior to joining the DUQ staff, Chuck owned an engineering and programming consulting business for which DUQ was a client.
Chuck's career also includes being an air personality, working on the air in various radio markets, including Pittsburgh. The stations included rock, news and country formats.
In 1974, he started his voiceover services business with numerous local and national clients. He has also been the "station voice" for a number of radio and television stations. Chuck is the voice you hear on DUQ announcing the national funders, as well as DUQ membership and programming announcements.
Chuck is also a musician, writer and poet, playing in various groups over the years. He resides in the South Hills with his wife and children and cats.
