Mark Nootbaar joined the DUQ News Department in 1996 as a reporter and producer. In 2000, Mark was promoted to Assistant News Director. With awards from the Pennsylvania Associated Press and the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania, his reports are heard on DUQ's local news broadcasts as well as NPR's top-of-the-hour reports, Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

 

Mark was born and raised in the Chicago suburb of Park Forest and received his Bachelor of Science degree in communications from Western Illinois University in Macomb. Upon graduation, he became the afternoon news anchor and reporter for WSOY AM/FM in Decatur, Illinois. The AM station format was news/talk while the FM station format was "top 40" music.

 

Before coming to DUQ, he served as morning host for NPR member station KEDT-FM in Corpus Christi, Texas.

 

In 2003, Mark was elected to the board of directors of The Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association. He is the only Board member from Pittsburgh.

 

Mark and his wife, Karen, met while attending Western Illinois University. Mark and his family live in the North Hills.
