WDUQ was one of the 190 charter members involved in the creation of the NPR (National Public Radio) news and information network in 1970. On April 17, 1972 WDUQ aired the first broadcast of NPR's afternoon news program, All Things Considered. NPR's Morning Edition was first broadcast on November 5, 1979. WDUQ has carried these award-winning programs since their inception.

In 1979, NPR became the first radio network to convert to
complete satellite distribution, feeding stations, including WDUQ, with
twelve channels of high quality audio.
Today, NPR is an internationally acclaimed producer and distributor of noncommercial news, talk and entertainment programming with more than 730 independently operated, member stations.
The weekly audience for NPR programming now exceeds 22 million listeners. Morning Edition is the second most listened to radio program in America, commercial or noncommercial. All Things Considered is the third most listened to radio program in America, commercial or noncommercial. (RRC/Arbitron, Spring 2003 Diary Data, Mon. - Sun., 6am - 12 midnight)
